Thesun - Axed marksman Tomer Hamed came off the bench to fire Brighton back to the top of the table.
His dramatic late winner came just two minutes after Bobby Zamora had saved the Seagulls’ unbeaten record.
On a rollercoaster afternoon, ex-Ireland man Chris Hughton’s side — now 19 league games without defeat — came back from two goals down to overhaul struggling Charlton.
Israeli Hemed, who had had not scored for ten matches, saved the very best until last.
After veteran Zamora, 34, struck his third goal in three games in the 83rd minute, Hemed’s header proved too hot for luckless keeper Stephen Henderson to handle.
Addicks had shocked Brighton with two goals in the first five minutes from brilliant teenager Ademola Lookman and Iranian ace Reza Ghoochannejhad.
But Manchester United loanee James Wilson, making his first Albion start, answered with a stunning solo effort four minutes after the break.
And despite having centre-back Patrick Bauer harshly sent off ten minutes later, battling Charlton hung on until the last few minutes.
Then Zamora followed up to net the rebound from Wilson’s blocked shot following a cross by the outstanding Solly March.
And Hemed, who had replaced Jamie Murphy, used his head to settle matters.
At first it looked a fine save from Henderson but he could only help the ball into the net.
Albion boss Hughton said: “It was a tough decision to leave Hemed out because even when he’s not been scoring, he has worked hard. I’m delighted he came off the bench to get the winner.
“We were poor in the first half against Charlton’s pace on the counter. But fair play to them, you could tell our players just did not want to lose the record.”
Seagulls had seen Middlesbrough go above them after their Friday win.
Charlton started the day hovering above the relegation zone and under seige from fans who want the club’s owner to go.
Interim manager Karel Fraeye’s orders to his side for a fast start stunned Brighton.
Ghoochannejhad burst through midfield and found Lookman on the left. He took on full-back Bruno, and thumped past David Stockdale.
Before Seagulls could get their breath back it was 2-0.
Lookmangalloped clear and although Beram Kayal’s tackle briefly stopped his progress, the ball spun to Berg Gudmundsson and he delivered a cross for Ghoochannejhad to sweep into the net.
Brighton threw everything at their visitors but were lucky to trail by just two at the break.
Ghoochannejhad saw a header palmed away by Stockdale, who also stuck out a leg to defy Gudmundsson.
Half an hour was remaining when Bauer was dismissed for pulling back Zamora when he was homing in on goal.
Fraeye said: “We lost a big option when Bauer was sent off. We were unlucky. We dominated in the first half.”
