Maradona had not ruled out accepting the position of coach of the Iranian football team in November.
The former Argentina coach, who is currently interested in leading the Boca Juniors, just smiled in response to a question asking if he would take the position of Iran coach if it was offered to him.
However, he said that he has not held any meetings with Iranian football officials.
Iran coach Afshin Ghotbi will leave the team after the 2011 AFC Asian Cup, which will be held in Doha, Qatar.
Maradona will come to Iran, but not in the near future, the Iranian president said on Sunday during a ceremony at the Azadi Complex in Tehran that was held to honor Iranian athletes who won medals at the 2010 Asian Games.
When the president was asked if Maradona would take charge of the team, Ahmadinejad just nodded his head and smiled.
