Seyed Hosseini put the visitors ahead in the 13th minute but striker Faisal Al Sultan levelled for Al Shabab in the 69th minute to earn a share of the spoils.
Sepahan dominated from the outset and deservedly took the lead when Hosseini pounced on a loose ball after Al Shabab goalkeeper Waleed Abdullah had failed to hold a shot and the defender headed home.
The visitors pressed as they looked to grab a second and only the bar denied them from extending their lead 10 minutes later before Al Shabab produced their first chance of the half in the 30th minute when Ali Otaif broke into the area before despatching a shot goalwards but Mehdi Rahmati was in the right place to avert the danger.
Rahmati was called into action again six minutes later from Flavio’s powerful effort before Al Shabab goalkeeper Abdullah prevented Sepahan from scoring again when he saved Emad Mohammed’s long-range shot.
Disappointed with the dominance Sepahan had enjoyed for much of the first half, Al Shabab coach Jaime Pacheco decided to bring on striker Naji Majrashi for defender Abdullah Al Astaa at half time.
The switch proved effective straight from the restart as the hosts started to take the game to their opponents and were rewarded for their attacking play with 21 minutes remaining when Al Sultan picked up possession outside the area before taking a touch to bring the ball under control and then drilling a shot into the left side of the goal.
Sepahan, however, came close to restoring there lead just minutes later when Ibrahima Toure sprung the offside trap with the defenders appealing for offside but striker was unable to find the back of the net with his shot.
The game opened up after that with Al Shabab and Sepahan launching attacks in an attempt to snatch a decisive second but no goal was forthcoming leaving both sides having to settle with a point.
