In a session held on Wednesday at the Iran Football Federation with the participation of Ali Kafashian, IFF president, Mehdi Taj, IFF vice-president, and Mehdi Haj-Bagher, Ghotbi’s agent, it was agreed that the coach will lead the national team to the end of the 2011 AFC Asian Cup with the option of further extension until World Cup 2014, in case of getting good results with the team.
Ghotbi’s fee is thought to be about $800,000 and his assistants will be Iranian.
Ghotbi will travel to Tehran within the next few days to pen his contract.
The 45 old-year coach took charge of the country’s national team from Mohammad Mayeli-Kohan in April, but failed to steer the team to the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Iran finished fourth in Group B of the World Cup qualifiers after South and North Koreas and Saudi Arabia.
