PTV - Iran's Football Federation (IFF) has suspended the activities of eight Premier League clubs over their failure to pay off their debts.

The eight clubs suspended by the IFF Disciplinary Committee include Abumoslem, Esteqlal, Esteqlal Ahvaz, Pas, Paykan, Persepolis, Rah Ahan and Saba Battery.

In a letter to the IFF Secretary General, Mojtaba Sharifi, head of the Disciplinary Committee, said the eight are not allowed to sign any player or have any sports-related activities unless they settle with the players or clubs they owe money to.

Abumoslem and Persepolis have the highest debts among the suspended clubs with IRR 3.8 billion (USD 380,000) and IRR 3.7 billion (USD 370,000) respectively.

Financial problems have been gripping Iranian soccer clubs over the past year with many clubs being unable to pay their players' monthly salaries.

In the Premier League's 2008-09 season, players of Payam Mashhad, which was finally relegated to the first division, abandoned training for more than a month after the club marred by financial problems failed to make any payments to them.

Esteqlal and Persepolis - Two of Iran's most popular clubs -- have been faced with severe financial difficulties despite the massive support they receive from the Physical Education Organization (PEO).
