AFC - Iranian soccer star Ali Karimi has said it is not impossible for Iran's soccer squad to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

"It is difficult for Iran to qualify for the World Cup but it is not impossible," the 30-year-old Ali Karimi said on Wednesday.

Earlier, the 2004 Asian Player of the Year Karimi voiced his readiness to serve the Iranian outfit to help qualify for the 2010 World Cup.

"I will return to Iran's soccer team if the new coach Mohammad Mayelikohan needs me," he added.

"I hope those who are well-deserved are invited to the team," he noted

Karimi, who has been capped 109 times for Iran, was suspended from the national team in May after criticizing the Iranian Football Federation (IFF).

According to Persepolis' Portuguese manager Nelo Vingada, Karimi can solve the Iranian team's problems with his great experience.

"Karimi is a highly experienced player. He can help his country's outfit," Vingada said.

On April 6, Mayelikohan was named as the successor to Ali Daei, who was sacked as Iran manager on March 28 over poor performance in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.

Iran is in Group B of the 2010 World Cup qualifiers along with Saudi Arabia, South Korea, the UAE and North Korea.

South Korea tops the chart on 11 points, one point ahead of North Korea and Saudi Arabia. Iran is placed fourth with six points, while the UAE is at the bottom of the group with only one point.

The top two teams will automatically qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.
