"Our players were able to use their chances and thus we secured a sweet victory in Tehran which was like playing in an extraordinary situation," the newly-appointed coach told reporters after the match.
"Currently both Koreas, Iran and we have the opportunity to make it to the World Cup finals, but I am telling you, we will fight to the end," he added.
Saudi Arabia came from behind to clinch a precious victory at Tehran's 100,000-seater Azadi Stadium after beating powerhouse Iran 2-1 in a World Cup qualifier on Saturday.
Iran's manager Ali Daei, however, has apologized to the Iranians for the defeat.
"I accept the (responsibility for) defeat, and I apologize to the Iranian people. But we still have the opportunity to make it to the World Cup," Daei said.
The 40-year-old Iranian boss further sharply criticized the local reporters at the press conference for talking about his resignation.
"Unfortunately you (reporters) were anticipating the moment that
Daei would be defeated but I am telling you that today not only Daei was defeated but also Iran's national team was defeated," the world top scorer lamented.
"You reporters are not in a position to talk about my resignation. This is football, we lost to Saudis on two accidents, but you should know that you can not mark the day I resign," he explained.
