AFC - Al Shabab will be looking to continue what has been a good week for the club when they host Iranian league champions Piroozi (Persepolis) on Tuesday at King Fahd International Stadium.

The Riyadh side claimed a 3-1 win in Qatar against Al Gharafa in their Group B opener last week before capturing the Prince Faisal bin Fahd Cup on Saturday with a penalty shootout victory against Al Nasr on Saturday.

With the clash against Piroozi bringing together the top two teams in the group, coach Enzo Torres knows that it will be important for his side to maintain their momentum of the last seven days.

"It is an important match in our campaign. If we can overcome them, we will maintain our position at the top,” said Torres, who is concerned with his team’s fitness after we he saw as a below-par performance against Al Nasr.

“Tuesday’s game is our third match in eight days and this busy schedule has taken a lot out of our team.

“Our unsatisfactory display last weekend was the result of the busy schedule of games.”

Striker Nasser Al Shamrani is confident that Al Shabab can pick up the three points although he expects a tough outing against the Iranian side.

"I have watched the Iranian teams in this year's AFC Champions League and they depend on body strength and fitness so it will not be easy to beat them,” he said.

Like Al Shabab, Piroozi also began their campaign with a 3-1 win at home against Sharjah of the United Arab Emirates and coach Nelo Vingada has pledged to take the game to the home side.

“Winning against Sharjah has given us good momentum. The players are highly motivated and we will do our best to get maximum points in Riyadh,“ he said.

“Al Shabab are a strong team with high profile players and they are thinking of nothing but a win on Tuesday night.

“But we are Persepolis. Our target is to qualify for the round of 16 as the first placed team and that will not happen unless we take all of our opportunities.

“We have trained well the last few days and all of our players are fit so I have no problem picking my ideal line-up for the meeting with Al Shabab.”
