Iraqi goalkeeper to join Persepolis
PTV - The Iraqi national soccer squad goalkeeper Noor Sabri is scheduled to join Tehran's popular team Persepolis on Tuesday morning.
The goalie's agent said Friday that the Iraqi athlete will attend the club's training sessions on Tuesday.
Sabri was supposed to arrive in Tehran last Thursday but postponed his trip due to the closure of the Iran-Iraq border.
The Iraqi government has temporarily closed its borders for security reasons before upcoming provincial elections.
Persepolis will sign an agreement with Sabri if the club's officials are satisfied with the goalie's performance during the training session. The two sides haven't yet reached a financial agreement yet.
The 24-year-old Noor Sabri Abbas Hassan currently plays for Al-Talaba in Iraq, and is the main goalkeeper for the Iraq national football team.
The Reds have made decisions to sign a foreign coach and a goalkeeper to improve the performance of the team.
Following consecutive defeats, the club has faced several problems over the past few months, especially poor performance this season.
The former Persepolis coach Afshin Qotbi resigned from his post and left the Iranian capital on November 18 after the club dismissed his Brazilian assistant Marco Antonio Alvarez and player Paulo Roberto do Carmo.
The Reds dismissed chief executive Dariush Mostafavi following the club's poor performance in Iran's Premier League (IPL) on January 5.
The defending champion currently sits in the fourth place in the IPL chart with 37 points, while their arch-rival, Esteqlal Tehran, leads the standings on 46 points.
