PLDC - It is not difficult to ignore that Mustafa Denizli's team, also known as the Red Lions of the capital, are not winning games despite playing an open attractive football. The real worries come to the surface when the stats shows that Perspolis has only won 1 out of its last 6 games and questions have been risen whether despite playing good football, do the reds have what it takes to actually challenge for the title? Currently sitting 4th in the table, Perspolis is playing catch-up with the leaders Saipa, Esteghlal and Esteghlal of Ahvaz. The team seemed to be on the right track after winning against their Tehrani rivals just 3 weeks ago but Perspolis was lucky to come out with a point from Kerman and then lost a 2 goal lead to Fajr at home to lose two crucial points. Despite Denizli's after the game comments, the red fans have reasons to be worried about their team's goal-scoring problem as the red strikers seem to be inconsistent and careless in front of goal. Looking at the schedule ahead, and until the end of the first half of the season, the reds will have 3 difficult away games in Ahvaz, Anzali and Isfahan and two home games that, at least on paper, seem to be winnable games against Saba and Rah-ahan of Tehran.
Perhaps only the most optimistic red fans see
their team at the top of the league at the mid-season break in 5 weeks, and
after the latest tied games that involved so many missed chances by the
reds, Denizli's men will have to start winning games or they will find
themselves even lower in the league table and further from the league
leaders, currently 4 points ahead of Perspolis. In another word, Perspolis
players and the team need to learn the 'art of winning' or soon the team
will be in real turmoil. |
