Haan has recalled Werder Bremen defender Pierre Wome Nlend to a 20-strong
squad to prepare for the side's next African Nations Cup qualifier against
Equatorial Guinea.
Wome has not played for Cameroon since missing a penalty in an October 2005
World Cup qualifier against Egypt, dashing Cameroon's hopes of making the
World Cup finals in Germany.
"Pierre Wome is a very good player," Dutchman Haan told reporters as he
unveiled the squad late on Friday. "It was not normal that he be dismissed
from the squad for simply missing a penalty. He has a very important role to
play in the team."
Haan also called up newcomer Jacques Elong Elong, who played for Cameroon
first division club Mount Cameroon before moving to Iranian club Persopolis
two years ago, when the two met.
Haan brought back defender Bill Tchato and attacking midfielder Achille
Emana, whilst leaving out Saidou Alioum of Nantes and Stephane Bikey, of
Locomotiv Moscow.
"Bikey is not playing at the moment and it is difficult for me to really
judge his performance. But with the return of Wome, I think there is no
reason to worry at the defence. As for Saidou, I am sorry to say he's not
doing well now, and did not shine in Rwanda," Haan said.
Cameroon beat Rwanda 3-0 at home in their first qualifier for the 2008
African Nations Cup.
The new squad is expected to start a training camp from Oct. 3 to prepare
for the second qualifier against Equatorial Guinea on Oct. 7.
