Tehran Times - Iran national football team defeated Uzbekistan 2-1 in a friendly match on Thursday.

Sardar Azmoun gave the visiting team the lead in the 43rd minute at the Paxtakor Markaziy Stadion in Tashkent.

Five minutes into the second half, Mehdi Taremi was brought down in the Uzbekistan area and converted his penalty to give Iran a 2-0 lead.

Uzbekistan forward Eldor Shomurodov halved the deficit just two minutes later with a shot from outside the box.

It was Dragan Skocic’s first match in charge as Iran coach.

Iran will play Mali in Antalya, Turkey on Oct. 13.

Iran prepare for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, where the ‘Persian leopards’ sit third in Group C behind Iraq and Bahrain.

The 2022 World Cup qualifiers scheduled this year were postponed to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

All around ok performance and good first game for a new coach. Here are a couple of observations which I don't think I'm alone of.
1: Great with generational shift - however why bring Khalilzadeh and keep Amiri both of whom are mediocre players?

1: Great with generational shift - however why bring Khalilzadeh and keep Amiri both of whom are mediocre players?
2: Our defence have been our strongest force last 8 years, today it was lacking badly. I believe LB: Moharrami CB: Pouraliganji and Hosseini RB: Mohammadi is the best main combination with Kanaani, Aghaei, Cheshmi, Taherkhani and Naderi as other great options.
3: Whats up with our midfield? Ezatolahi and Hajsafi the heart of the center and should be fixed for every game to create continuity in Team Melli. Jahanbash as main RW option and Ghoddos or Gholizadeh as LW options.
4: Of new players: Noorafkan, Moharrami, Ghaedi are all adjusting well - but we shouldn't be shy of giving Zahedi, Sayyedmanesh, Delfi, Mehdikhani and Abedzadeh the chance all are shining.
5: Nemati was all over the place and not the right caliber. Torabi and Ansarifard are way better choices.
