GOAL - The Team Melli skipper is understood to be close to a move to the Tehran club after spending the past six years playing in Spain with Osasuna

Tehran giants Esteghlal are in talks with Osasuna's Iran international midfielder Javad Nekounam according to reports.

The Tehran Times claims the two parties have reached agreement on a deal but are awaiting the Team Melli skipper's final decision.

General manager Ali Fatollahzadeh is understood to be keen to sign the 31-year-old midfielder who has another year to run on his current contract with Osasuna.

Nekounam, who started his career with PAS in Iran, has spent the past six years in Spain after joining Osasuna in 2006.

The midfielder, who has made more than 100 appearances for his country, played 31 times and scored six goals in all competitions for Osasuna last term.
