IR Iran won their fourth consecutive AFC Futsal Championships title on
Wednesday evening, scoring three goals on either side of the break to defeat
Japan 6-0 in the Final.
Japan's title hope fizzled into thin air when Iranian Mojtaba Moeeini broke the deadlock five minutes from the break, with tournament top-scorer VahidShamsaee adding further goals in the 16th and 19th minute to help Iran finish the first half on a good note. Well aware of Iran's prowess from three consecutive semi-final losses in just as many AFC Futsal Championships, Japan started the match with clear determination to defend. Such was Japan's vigilance that Iran were constantly frustrated in front of goal and the East Asians even had the occasional look in at their opposition’s goal-mouth. However, Moeeini's effort in the 15th minute gave indications that an upset result is looking impossible on the day, with the two goals from VahidShamsaee soon later giving that view a real stamp of approval. Like the opening period, the second half started with Japan still very much eager to defend their goal but after watching Iran score 55 goals in just five matches, the onus was always on the Middle East side to extend their three goal lead. Ahmad Pari Azar scored in the 30th minute before Mohammad Reza Heidarian and Siamak Dadashi got on to the score-sheet themselves in the last three minutes. Meanwhile, Thailand won third place after defeating Korea Republic 4-2 in another match played earlier. The match was tied at 1-1 at the break after Wuttichai Tintawee of Thailand had given his side the lead in the 10th minute, with Lee jong Muk equalising soon after in the 14th minute. A second half hat-trick by Anucha Manjarern quashed any thoughts of a Korean win, with Kim Man Joong socring the only goal for Korea after the break.
