Mahdavikia Persepolis

TEHRAN - Damash midfielder Mehdi Mahdavikia will likely join Persepolis in the winter transfer window.

Damash general manager Amir Abedini said Mahdavikia has decided to leave the team after some fans insulted him during the match against Naft.

“Mahdavikia told me he will never return to Damash. We are ready to let him to join Persepolis but the team has to let Hadi Norouzi to join us in a swap deal,” Abedini said.

Mahdavikia, who featured Hamburg SV All-Stars against Zidan & Ronaldo and Friends last week, was expected to join Persepolis at the beginning of the Iran Professional League season but the team’s coach Hamid Estili didn’t sign him.

The 34-year-old player said he has not yet decided about his future plans.

“I talked to Persepolis general manager (Mohammad Ruyanian) but I have not made a decision yet whether I will continue my football or quit it,” Mahdavikia said.

Mahdavikia played three years for Persepolis before moving to VfL Bochum in 1998.

He also played for Hamburger SV and Eintracht Frankfurt.
