MNA - Esteghlal football team defeated Zob Ahan and returned to top of the Iran Professional League (IPL) standings table on Saturday.

Esteghlal defeated Zob Ahan 2-0 at Isfahan’s Fooladshahr Stadium.

Defender Hanif Omranzadeh headed the ball into back of the net just nine minutes into the match.

Milad Meydavoodi extended the lead of the visiting team in the 44th minute. The unmarked striker opened Zob Ahan’s goal with a header.

“Esteghlal defeated a big team in Isfahan. We could not defeat Zob Ahan in their home in the recent years. Esteghlal could have scored even more goals but our strikers missed their chances,” Parviz Mazloumi said.

In the other matches, rock-bottom Mes of Sarcheshmeh edged past Sanat Naft 2-1 while Saba downed Shahrdari 3-1.

Esteghlal moved one point clear at the summit of the IPL standings table, followed by Naft and Saba.
