Esteghlal and Saipa crash out of Hazfi Cup

AFC - Esteghlal will not be joining fellow Iran Pro League sides Pas, Peykan and Persepolis in the last 16 of the Hazfi Cup after being shocked by Moghavemate Basij 2-0 on Friday.

Basij took the lead in the 31st minute through Hossein Koushki and following the failure of Mohamdi Navazi to equalize in the 74th minute, Samad Akbari clinched the issue with his 85th minute strike.

Basij will now face off against Persepolis, who defeated Kaveh 4-2, in the next round.

In other games, Pas scraped past Shamooshak 3-1 on penalties after normal time ended a goal apiece and defending champions Sepahan beat current Iran Pro League leaders Saipa 2-0 with goals from Jalal Akbari and Hadi Aghili.
