IRNA - The head of the Iranian Football Federation Mohammad Dadkan toured on Thursday the World Cup stadium in Nuremberg, the site of Iran's 2006 World Cup opener against Mexico on June 11.

Joined by Iranian Charge d'Affaires Ebadollah Molaei, Dadkan met with Nuremberg Mayor Ulrich Maly to discuss the state of preparations for the global football tournament in the south German city, the official 2006 World Cup portal of Nuremberg announced on Friday.

Iran plans also to offer several cultural events before and after the Mexico match.

Dadkan was also due to visit the World Cup stadiums in Frankfurt and Leipzig as well as Iran's training camp in the southern German town of Friedrichshafen.

Iran will open its World Cup campaign against Mexico in Nuremberg on June 11, then head to Frankfurt for an encounter with Portugal on June 17 before facing Angola in Leipzig on June 21.

This is Iran's third World Cup attendance after 1978 and 1998.
