PFDC - TEHRAN, The Iranian Professional League IPL is just around the corner, and there has been a lot of hype created around it. This would be because of the recent transfers that have taken place and the fact that the league has been increased to 16 teams, of which the bottom two will be relegated at the end of the season.
This increase in the number of teams saved both Saipa Tehran and Shamooshak Nowshahr, who won their playoff matches against the third and fourth placed of Division 1 and therfore will play in IPL along with newly promoted Malavan of Anzali and the new supposed "Chelsea of IPL " Saba Battery of Tehran. Saba was able to sign a couple of Iranian star players, among them Iran's national team captain Ali Daei and former national team players such as Mohammad Navazi or Hadi Tabatabaei.
Last season's champions Pas Tehran and League Cup winners and 2003 champions Sepahan of Isfahan, will not only be eager to grsb the IPL crown for the second time, but will also be representing our country in the AFC Champions League.
So far the clubs have shown reason to believe that we shall see a thrilling season, as quite a couple of interesting transfers have taken place. Below comes the schedule and a listing of the major transfers.
