MNA - Iran’s Football Federation Tuesday announced that the country will play host to the first Asian children’s matches in early August 2004.

According to the IFF, the Asian Football Confederation showed the green light to the country, which had offered its bid for the event.

Entitled “Happy Football Festival”, the Asian competitions will be held for under-12, under-13, and under-14 teams in Shariati stadium, in Karaj, 40km west of Tehran, from August 8-12.

The federation added teams from Kuwait, Iraq, Georgia, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan Republic, Uzbekistan, the United Arab Emirates, Syria, and Saudi Arabia have so far voiced their readiness.

Some 400 foreign and 180 domestic players are expected to attend the Asian meet, said the IFF adding that the main aim behind the tournament is to identify the gifted footballers.
