
PLDC - Iran’s national team will be in Pot 2 for the 2026 FIFA World Cup group-stage draw, which will take place on December 5. With the seeding pots now confirmed, the path toward forming the 12 groups for the expanded 48-team tournament is officially set.
The World Cup will be held from June 11 to July 19, 2026, and co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. FIFA has announced that the top four teams in the latest world rankings will avoid meeting each other until the semifinals—provided they win their groups.

Pot 1: Canada, Mexico, USA, Spain, Argentina, France, England, Brazil, Portugal, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany
Pot 2: Croatia, Morocco, Colombia, Uruguay, Switzerland, Japan, Senegal, Iran, South Korea, Ecuador, Austria, Australia
Pot 3: Norway, Panama, Egypt, Algeria, Scotland, Paraguay, Tunisia, Ivory Coast, Uzbekistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa
Pot 4: Jordan, Cape Verde, Ghana, Curaçao, Haiti, New Zealand, European Play-Off winners (A–D), FIFA Play-Off Tournament winners (1–2)
So far, 42 teams have secured their place. The remaining six spots will be filled in March through European and intercontinental playoffs.
