Farhad Majidi’s winner lifts Al-Wasl

MiddleeastFootball.com - Al-Wasl needed to call on their experience, abut also the opportunism of Iranian clinical finisher Farhad Majidi, to finally dismiss Al-Sha’ab 1-0 at home on Monday, the closing day of the 4th Week of league action here in the United Arab Emirates.

With Al-Ahly easily thrashing Al-Ittihad 3-0 away from home in the other featured game held tonight, Al-Wasl moved to the second spot of Group 2 table standings with 7 points out of possible 12, 5 points adrift of Al-Ahly who maintained their 100 percent league record.

Al-Wahda had their away fixture against Al-Emirates postponed, as they are scheduled to face kuwiti outfits Al-Qadissiyyah in the Asian Champions’ League opening fixture away from home on Wednesday.

Quite a pathetic display by Al-Wasl that was, only poor finishing by Al-Sha’ab kept them in the game before Majidi’s impressive individual effort in a crowded goalmouth following a free-kick after 66 minutes securing them a hardly-deserved victory, their second in 4 league outings.
