Mura call for Blazevic

UEFA - Miroslav Blazevic has been appointed as the new coach of Slovenian side NK Mura.

The controversial coach, who led the Croatian national side to the semi-finals of the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France has signed a one-year contract at the Slovenian club with the option of a second year if his first season proves to be a success. He is reported to have turned down an offer to coach in the United Arab Emirates and a position with the Ukrainian national side. "I didn't want to go far away from home," he explained. 

Mura ambitions
Blazevic agreed the deal with the club's chairman Georg Suban. Mura finished ninth in the Slovenian league last season, but the coach expects more. "I accepted this offer because I want to create a big club that will play in European competition," he said. "The money wasn't the most imporant thing for me when I was deciding where to go." 

Boardroom disruption
The 68-year-old coach proved his credentials once more in the 2002/03 season as he led NK Dinamo Zagreb to the Croatian title, but he left the club after an argument with the board and was replaced last week by Nikola Jurcevic.
