Ligue1 - Sehrou Guirassy's first goal for Amiens SC earned them a 1-0 win at home to OGC Nice on Saturday that gives them breathing space over the bottom three.
THE MATCH
Nice were hoping to go into sixth with a win, but Amiens — looking nervously over their shoulders at the bottom three — were in determined mood.
Sehrou Guirassy forced a good early save from Walter Benitez with a fierce drire (9') before the January signing from Cologne opened his account for his new club, latching onto Moussa Konaté's clever ball before slotting past Benitez (11').
Despite the inclusion of Allan Saint-Maximin in the starting line-up, Nice struggled to maintain a significant threat to Régis Gurtner's goal, and only a timely challenge from Wylan Cyprien on the edge of his own area denied Saman Ghoddos a second before the break (42').
Ghoddos menace
Ghoddos in particular was a danger to the visitors with the Iran international's direct play a source of menace that Nice could not cope with. It was his free-kick that led to Guirassy coming close to a second, but his header was cleared off the line by Pierre Lees-Mélou (68').
The Stade de la Licorne crowd and their heroes on the pitch got increasingly nervous with the approach of the final whistle, but when it sounded, a second win in eight competitive outings was welcomed with huge roar of delight and relief as it put them four points clear of 18th.
THE PLAYER: Saman Ghoddos
The Amiens forward was superb throughout, and fully deserered the standing ovation he got from the crowd when he was substituted late on. His club's hopes of staying up may well rest on his shoulders.
THE STAT: 7
Nice coach Patrick Vieira was not a happy man at the full-time whistle, and with good reason: his side have now not won in seven away matches.
