Ligue1 - Moussa Konaté got back among the goals to give Amiens SC a precious 1-0 win over SM Caen at the Stade de la Licorne and lift his side out of the relegation zone.
Something had to give here, with Amiens looking to end a run of five successive defeats in all competitions and Caen having lost their three previous Ligue 1 Conforama outings in 2019.
Perhaps Caen were not helped by the fact they were taken to extra time and penalties before beating SC Bastia in the Coupe de France in midweek, and they were undone here by Konaté's decisive goal in the 64th minute.
Making his first appearance since returning from playing at the Asian Cup with Iran, Saman Ghoddos played a corner from the left short to Steven Mendoza. Ghoddos got the ball back and crossed for Konaté, whose header looped over Brice Samba and in.
Caen were unable to find an equaliser, although they almost snatched a point late on, as Claudio Beauvue's header was brilliantly kept out by Régis Gurtner.
The victory lifts Christophe Pelissier's side out of the bottom three and means Caen drop into the relegation zone as the Normandy side continue their search for a first point of 2019.
THE PLAYER: Moussa Konaté
How Amiens have missed the Senegal striker, scorer of 13 Ligue 1 Conforama goals last season but making his first start here since late October after injury. His goal was his first since late August and took his tally for the campaign to four.
THE STAT: 7
This was a first win in seven league games for Amiens, and their first in seven at home too. They had not won a league match at the Stade de la Licorne since defeating Dijon FCO 1-0 on October 6.
