Borneo Bulletin - DPMM FC are set to sign Iranian striker Mojtaba Esmaeilzadeh from Iranjavan FC, according to the club’s website.
The 27-year old has been part of the group who began their trials for the club earlier this month.
He will also be the first foreign player to join the club in the new managerial era under newly appointed head coach Rene Weber.
Mojtaba, who can also operate in left or right midfield, has also boasted experience playing for the Persian Gulf Pro League side Sepidrood.
Mojtaba also made 28 appearances for former club Foolad Yazd, managing three goals.
Iranjavan FC currently play in the Azadegan League, the second tier of Iran professional league.
DPMM FC could be looking to fill in the quota for foreign imports with three players allowed following discussions with the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) aided by the positive reception by other participating clubs in the S League.
The ‘Gegar Gegar’ men are looking for a good season after their struggles last season, having finished second from bottom.
Several players from various international leagues including Finland and Slovakia have been taking part in the trials earlier this month.
Rene Weber, who formerly served as assistant coach for a number of Brazilian clubs, has asserted his desire to play football and win as he begins his first taste of the Singaporean top flight with the club.
The S League season will kick off on March 31 with the Community Shield between Albirex Niigata (S) and Tampines Rovers FC at the Singapore Sports Hub.
