AFC - The Football Association of Maldives have refrained from traveling to Iran for their 2004 Athens Olympic Asian Qualifying Round One because of the security situation in neighboring Iraq. Thus, Iran will advance straight to Qualifying Round Two because of Maldives cancellation of the match. In a letter to the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Maldives informed that their government has requested all Maldivians to refrain from traveling to the region because of the security situation. In addition, some of the parents of the players are also refusing to send their sons. The first leg was to be held at the Naghsh Jahan Stadium in Isfahan on April 12th with the return leg scheduled to be played in the National Stadium in Male on April 19th. |
