Tehran Times - Iranian-Swedish midfielder Saman Ghoddos has reportedly given the green light to Iran Football Federation to join Team Melli.
The 24-year-old, who scored for his side Östersund FK during Europa League qualification against Turkish giant Galatasaray, has played in two friendly matches for Sweden and scored a goal but he is still eligible to play for Iran.
Ghoddos has now applied for Iranian citizenship and it seems he is going to choose Iran national football team.
“There's nothing I can answer now. It's still 50-50 for me. But as I said before, there is only one national team that shows interest right now,” Ghoddos said in an interview with SportExpressen.
“I will always love Sweden. I’ve grown up here. It is an honor to live here and to represent Sweden. At the same time, my parents are Iranian. I have Persian blood in my body. I love Iran too,” said Ghoddos.
In December 2016, Ghoddos was called up by Sweden manager Janne Andersson for friendlies against Ivory Coast and Slovakia. He scored his first international goal for Sweden in a 6–0 win over Slovakia on 12 January 2017.
