Tasnim - Persepolis football team won the third edition of Iran’s Super Cup after defeating Naft Tehran 3-0 here at the Azadi Stadium on Friday.
Ali Alipour opened the scoring for Persepolis in the 17th minute and Mohsen Mosalman scored the second goal in the 65th minute.
Persepolis substitute Siamak Nemati was brought down in the penalty area and Farshad Ahmadzadeh found the back of the net from the penalty spot in the 84th minute.
“It was an important win for us and I would like to thank my players. We have three trophies ahead in the new season and we want to win all of them,” Persepolis coach Branko Ivankovic said.
The Iranian Super Cup is an Iranian association football trophy awarded to the winner of a match between the Persian Gulf Professional League's season champion and the winner of the Hazfi Cup. It is similar to numerous other Super Cup tournaments held in other countries.
The match was held in 2005 when Hazfi Cup champion Saba Battery defeated league champion Foolad 4–0.
Zob Ahan won the second Super Cup, beating 2015–16 Persian Gulf Professional League winner Esteghlal Khuzestan 4–2 after extra time.
