TEHRANTIMES - Former Hamburg SV player Mehdi Mahdavikia has been voted the best Iranian right midfielder of all time in a poll conducted by 90 TV program.
He was selected with more than 77 per cent of the vote, followed by Mohammad Navazi, Majid Namjoo-Motlagh and Morteza Kermani Moghaddam.
“I’m extremely happy and I would like to thank all of the people who voted me. I think this result in the voting confirm that fans have not forgotten former players like me and this is an honor for me,” Mahdavikia told ISNA.
Mahdavikia has played for notable Iranian and German clubs such as Persepolis, Hamburg SV and Eintracht Frankfurt in his playing time.
He was the captain of the Iran national football team from 2006 to 2009, and the fourth most capped Iranian International after Ali Daei, Javad Nekounam and Ali Karimi. He has scored 13 times in 110 caps for the Persians.
