SyndiGate - A football all-star game between Iran players and an international team featuring the likes of Luis Figo and Gary Lineker is planned for late August in Tehran in the wake of the nuclear deal, according to local news reports.
The game is reportedly planned for August 28 in Tehran's Azadi stadium and the former England star Lineker, Portugal's Figo, Roberto Carlos of Brazil and Italy's Fabio Cannavaro have agreed to play on the international team.
Iran's nuclear dispute with the western world had isolated the country over the past decades, which was also felt in football as no major team has played in Iran in the last 10 years.
There is speculation that the nuclear deal reached last month and the planned lifting of sanctions will boost the popular sport in the country by allowing foreign investment.
Iran won three straight Asian Cup titles between 1968 and 1976. The national team has qualified for the World Cup on four occasions, including last year in Brazil, but has never advanced from the group stage.
