PFDC - Zob Ahan Esfahan were crowned Iran’s Hazfi Cup champions after defeating Naft Tehran 3-1 in the final on Monday.
Naft took the lead through Iranian international winger Vahid Amiri but Zob Ahan equalized through Ghasem Hadadifar before taking the lead thanks to veteran striker Mehdi Rajabzadeh.
Kaveh Rezaei’s 3-1 then was the nail in the coffin for Alireza Mansourian’s Naft who, after becoming runners-up in the league behind Sepahan in a dramatic season finale, now also finished second in the Cup and can only comfort themselves with their AFC Champions League quarter-final berth and automatical qualification to the 2016 edition of the continental tournament.
Meanwhile, Zob Ahan also took the second trophy to Esfahan and will also join Naft in the 2016 Champions League.
The win should be especially sweet for Yahya Golmohammadi, who narrowly and dramatically lost the 2013 Hazfi Cup final when still in charge of Persepolis Tehran.
