PTV - Iran has kept its position as the best national soccer team in Asia, according to the latest ranking issued by the world’s football governing body, FIFA.
The ranking issued on Thursday saw Iranian national soccer team gain 689 points to stay atop of the Asian teams, ahead of Japan and South Korea which scored 614 and 575 points respectively.
According to the ranking, which is updated by FIFA on a monthly basis, Iran is placed in the 40th position in the world after teams like Sweden and Iceland.
Iran failed to ascend the last eight of the Asian Cup games in Australia in January, but the Iranian footballers shined in two friendlies against Chile and Sweden in late March.
Germany, the 2014 World Cup winner, still tops FIFA’s April ranking with 1687 points, followed by Argentina and Belgium with 1490 and 1457 points, respectively. Brazil, the most decorated team in the world of football, remains fifth on the table, while Spain, which dominated the number one position for years, is still placed tenth.
