Tehrantimes - Iranian winger Alireza Jahanbakhsh believes that Team Iran has done well in the 2015 AFC Asian Cup despite loss against Iraq on penalties.
Iran advanced to the quarter-final stage with three successive wins against Bahrain, Qatar and the UAE respectively.
“We have done our best but the penalty shootout is a 50-50 situation. Our goal was to win the Asian Cup but unfortunately we didn’t have luck,” Jahanbakhsh told reporters.
“Fans are happy despite we have been eliminated in the quarter finals and this shows they were satisfied with our performance. The technical staff also tried his best and we were deserved to be in the last four,” the 22-year-old added.
The Iranian football team returned to Tehran from Sydney on Monday.
