PLDC - Tehran, After bidding farewell of Persepolis stars in today’s match against AC Millan stars, Mehdi Mahdavikia said, “Today was the day of bidding farewell to Persepolis for many players. It is my duty to thank Persepolis for their hard working during these days to hold a good match. I also specially thank the veterans and the fans.”
In response to the question regarding whether he is still annoyed by the good-bye match against Sepahan, he said, “I was not annoyed. Today was a good day, not only for me but also for all the veterans. They came to Azadi Stadium after many years and were applauded.”
Comparing the stamina of the two teams, the missile of Iran football also added, “Our team was not coordinated. The Milan players were more coordinated and physically better than us. Anyhow, the Persepolis players came together for the first time. I think the game was beautiful aside from the result of the play.”
Mahdavikia who stepped on the field for Persepolis by taking the number 17 jersey from Farshad Pious, bid farewell to football world by wearing no. 17 jersey again.
Regarding this issue, he said, “17 was my favourite number from childhood. Anyhow, Pious is also one of the great players of Persepolis and has scored many goals for this team, and I like to bid farewell by wearing no. 17 jersey.”
The former captain of Persepolis continued, “All my wishes came true. Today was really a good day for me. I was really surprised when Mohammad Panjali offered the captain's armband to me. He did a great job. As a whole, I can say that everyone did their best.”
