Football Kenya Federation (FKF) have defended their decision to ask for more than Sh4million appearance fee in order to play Iran.

The federation President Sam Nyamweya says the money was to cover expenses for the match that was scheduled to be played on November 14 in Tehran.

He insisted that asking for appearance fee is normal and whether a match goes on or not depends on negotiations between two federations.

“They had offered us Sh2million but we declined because FKF was expected to foot travel costs to Iran. We then asked them to double the amount but they declined and we are fine with that.

“It is all about negotiations and agreements between two federations," Nyamweya told Goal on Thursday.

Iran announced on Tuesday they had called off the match citing ‘odd’ request from FKF to be paid Sh4million and meet their travel costs as well.

According to Iran Football Federation President Ali Kaffashian, the Kenyans had requested to be paid $50,000 in addition to their travel expenses being met.

Iran is preparing itself for 2015 AFC Asian Cup. The Carlos Quieroz team has been pitted against United Arab Emirates (UAE), Qatar and Bahrain in Group C of the tournament which will be held in Australia from January 9 to 31.
