President of the Italian Football Federation (FIGC), Carlo Tavecchio, attends a press conference at Iran National Football Academy in Tehran, October 26, 2014.

PTV - The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has stated that Iran’s under-17 national soccer team will take on its Italian number in a friendly match expected to be held late next year.

FIGC President Carlo Tavecchio said the two teams would stage the game in mid-December 2015, IRNA reported.

He made the remarks following the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding on bilateral cooperation between FIGC and the Football Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran (FFIRI) in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Sunday.

Tavecchio and his Iranian counterpart, Ali Kaffashian, inked the agreement at Iran National Football Academy. FFIRI General Secretary Mohammad Mehdi Nabi and FIGC Legal Counsel Mario Gallavotti also attended the ceremony.

“I would rather work than talk. I have come to Iran to make faster progress. We will actually see significant progress in the future,” Tavecchio said, adding, “We discussed the possibility of friendly matches between the two football teams on all levels with the Iranian football federation.”

The FIGC president noted, “We are going to boost cooperation between the two countries, that’s why I am here.”

Tavecchio also stated that he has been following Iranian football since 1992.
