OmanObserver - German football legend Lothar Matthaeus is being considered as the next coach of the Iran national team, reports say yesterday.
Matthaeus, 52, is expected to arrive in Iran next Friday according to the Fars news agency. He is scheduled to appear on a television programme about the World Cup in Brazil.
But sports journalists in Iran believe there is interest in securing Matthaeus to coach the national team as current boss Carlos Quieroz will leave after the World Cup.
“I will never respond negatively to a serious offer and will at least consider it (an offer),” Matthaeus was quoted by Fars.
Matthaeus won several honours in a glittering playing career including the 1990 World Cup with West Germany.
