AFC - Defending champions Sanaye Giti Pasand conceded three goals in last three minutes as Thai powerhouse Chonburi Bluewave stunned them 4-3 in a thrilling Group B tie of the AFC Club Futsal Championship 2013 at the Ocean Arena on Wednesday.
Despite conceding a goal in the 7th minute to Chonburi’s Jirawat Sornwichian, the Iranians were in total control of the match. Ahmed Esmeailpour, who had scored against Al Sadd on Tuesday, brought the match level at 1-1 in the 15th minute.
Hossein Tayebi put Sanaye at 2-1 lead in the first minute of the second half and after Mohammed Taheri found the net to make it 3-1, it looked like that Sanaye were heading for an easy win but Pazos Mendez side demonstrated one of the great comebacks of the tournament history by scoring three goals in last three minutes.
Madyalan Nattavut scored his first of the day in the 37th minute which was followed by Rudimar Venancio’s goal which made it 3-3. Coach Mendez would have taken that result but Nattavut had different idea as the forward player scored in the last minute winner to fire Chonburi at the top of the Group B table.
“Barring the results, the match was really good,” Sanaye coach Reza Aliabady said.
“We were well aware about the strengths of this Chonburi side so despite going down early we managed to hit back and scored three goals which could have been enough on any other day.
“But they were desperate and took aggressive approach which my boys failed to handle. We are still not safe and Thursday is another difficult tie against the Uzbeks, they are quality opponent but we will play to win,” he warned.
“It was a great victory against the defending champions,” ecstatic Chonburi coach Mendez said. “They were typical Iranian team and we were asked to punch above our weight.
“The offensive strategy worked really well in the final period as it was rightly a match between two great sides.
“But nothing is decided yet and we must concentrate on Thursday match against Al Sadd who are one of the favourites, he added.
