AFC - Syria have scheduled a friendly against local team in Iran to prepare their national team for the upcoming AFC Asian Cup 2015 qualifiers against neighbouring Jordan.


After suffering a 1-0 defeat to Oman in their first match of the qualifiers, Syria are yet to open their account in the competition. Jordan top Group A while Oman, who face Singapore on August 14, are second.

Syria had managed to qualify in the AFC Asian Cup 2011 finals but failed to progress from the group stage. Syria had suffered a 2-1 defeat against Jordan, whom they are meeting on August 15, during the continental championship in Qatar.

Earlier, Anas Makhlouf’s side played two friendly matches against local El Jaish club drawing the first one goalless and winning the second match 4-1.

Coach Makhlouf has called up 10 players playing outside Syria for the strong 25-man squad.
