Nilson: we can be champions

PLDC - Tehran, Persepolis's veteran Brazilian goalkeeper, Nilson Correa Junior believes that his club has a high chance of winning the title this season.

The fan favourite gatekeeper declared, "Everything is great. We are continuing our training in desirable conditions. We have to value these moments and train as hard as we can so we can enter the new season as strong as possible. For me, nothing is as important as focusing on training. I see myself as a Persepolisi and I have to  completely dedicate myself to my club. We have established a good relationship with Ali Daei. However, I have never had a problem with a coach because I am a professional, and as a professional I follow the commands of the coach and the technical cadre. Daei has an attractive personality and we established a connection very quickly."

Regarding his situation with other goalkeepers, Nilson said, "They are all like my brothers. No one can ruin my relationship with my friends. We will always stand by each other and continue our efforts."

When asked about Reza Mohammadi's claim that he wants to replace Nilson as the fixed goalkeeper of Persepolis, the Brazilian replied, "If Mohammadi spoke any differently, then it would be strange. I know he can be the future of Persepolis, and I respect him for his ambitions. But you should know that I don't like to give up my starting spot to anyone. We have to battle it out the entire season, but still be friends and wait for the technical cadre's decision."

Alireza Haghighi has been loaned from Rubin Kazan this season, and this has brought the speculation that he is also another challenger for Nilson's starting spot. Regarding this matter, Nilson said, "I am not scared nor worried about competing and I will take what I deserve. We all have equal opportunity, and Ali Daei and the technical cadre will pick the players that deserve to start."

Regarding his club's chances of winning the Persian Gulf Cup this season, Nilson said, "We have a high chance of becoming champions and other clubs must know this. Persepolis has always been a big club and must stay a big club. We will go and fight so we can attain maximum points. No one is as hopeful as me about winning the title this season."

This summer, Ali Karimi and Karim Ansarifard were transferred from Persepolis to Tractor Sazi. Ironically, these clubs will face off with one another in their first match of the season. Nilson was very positive about this match as he said, "We have to respect our competition and we can't afford to underestimate any team. Our first match against Tractor Sazi will be difficult but we have no choice but to win. Ali Karimi and Karim Ansarifard are my good friends, and we are now rivals. I am not afraid of any player or striker."

Nilson concluded, "Our technical cadre have made excellent plans and we will enter the field in top form. Just know that we are professionals and we are not afraid of any big names or teams. We have to do our job and our focus must be infinite!"
