Tasnim - Head of Iran's Football Federation Ali Kaffashian ensured the Iranian soccer fans that the Portuguese Head Coach of the Iranian national team Carlos Quiroz would keep on coaching the Iranian team till the end of 2014 Brazil World Cup games.
“After the World Cup Quiroz is free to negotiate with any federation, or team that he would wish to, but we, too, would try to renew his contract with the Iranian team after the World Cup,” Kaffashian told Tasnim News Agency on Saturday.
Reacting to a report in Ireland’s the Independent.ie daily that two of Alex Ferguson's former assistants, Carlos Quiroz and Rene Meulensteen, have become the latest applicants to express an interest in the Irish managerial job, Kaffashian said that Quiroz would continue to lead the Iranian team untill Brazil World Cup.
Both men have alerted the FAI – via intermediaries – that they would like to be considered for the post created by Giovanni Trapattoni's dismissal last month.
They join a growing list of credible candidates and will be contacted by the FAI's two kingmakers, Ruud Dokter and Ray Houghton, later this month for formal interviews, the daily reported.
