PLDC - Tehran, For a while now, it has been said that Farhad Majidi is about ready to retire from football, and this Wednesday it may finally happen.
The ever so famous and beloved number-7 of Esteghlal started his youth career with Bahman FC 20 years ago. In 1997 he joined The Blues and in between then and now, he played for Rapid Wien in Austria, Al Wasl, Al Ain, Al Nasr, and Al Ahli in the Emirates, and Al Gharrafa in Qatar.
He also made his first appearance for Team Melli in the 1996 Asian Cup against Saudi Arabia. From then, he was occasionally called up for the national team, but never became a regular. Nevertheless, Majidi is a fan-favourite and loved by Esteghlal fans.
And now, sources around Majidi have said that the 37-year-old may retire if Esteghlal fails to defeat FC Seoul in a fashion that qualifies them for the final of the 2013 AFC Champions League.
The Esteghlal legend's final wish was to win the Champions League trophy and say goodbye to football with this achievement, and if his club fails to go to the next round, it is highly likely that he will retire from the sport.
