Tehranchronicle - Yesterday, Iran national football team managed to thrash Lebanon in Azadi Sports Complex of Tehran. Javad Nekounam, the captain, scored two goals for his side and was selected as man of the match.
Vahid Hashemian, the former player and forward of Team Melli, believes that Iran has a great opportunity to get qualified for the next version of FIFA World Cup, which is scheduled to be held on 2014 in Brazil.
“It was a crucial win for Iran. Lebanon defeated Iran in first leg, but our team showed their bests and managed to win the game against the same team in Iran.” Vahid Hashemian said.
Around 90,000 spectators joined Azadi Stadium to encourage Team Melli. “The support was very helpful and necessary for the team. The people must continue supporting Iran national football team like they did yesterday.”
Vahid Hashemian also went on to praise Carlos Queiroz for his significant role in leading Iran national football team. “During the recent months, there was a huge pressure on Queiroz both from local media and Iranians. However, Carlos Queiroz has managed to pass the critical times with Team Melli. Actually, he is a professional head coach, and he knows how to deal with external and internal pressures in big teams such as Iran national team.”
Next week, South Korea will host Iran in the last match of Asian qualifiers.
