TEHRANTIMES - Yahya Golmohammadi has stepped down as head coach of Persepolis football team on Wednesday.

The Iranian giant Persepolis lost to Sepahan in final match of the Iran’s Hazfi Cup on Sunday.

The 42-year-old coach replaced Portuguese coach Manuel Jose in last year’s December following the Tehran-based team’s poor results in the Iran Professional League.  

“I believe that it was the best decision. Now, Persepolis officials have enough time to appoint their best option. It was time to go,” Golmohammadi said.

Zlatko Kranjcar is reportedly a candidate to replace Yahya Golmohammadi in the Tehran-based team.

The current coach of Sepahan football team has already worked in Persepolis. The 56-year-old Croat joined Persepolis on July 2009 on a two years contract but was sacked in September following the poor results.
