TEHRANTIMES - Esteghlal coach Amir Ghalenoei has dismissed rumors, which say he is returning to the Iran football team as a coach.
Iranian media have reported that Ghalenoei is likely to replace Carlos Queiroz in the Iran football team.
Ghalenoei was fired as Iran coach after the team produced poor results in the 2007 AFC Asian Cup.
“I swear I’m not thinking about returning to the Iran football team. I am just concentrating on Esteghlal at the moment. We must help Queiroz to take Iran to the 2014 World Cup,” Ghalenoei said.
Esteghlal will face Al-Ain of the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday in the AFC Champions League group stage. The Iranian team has already qualified for the next round.
“We will play the Emirati team to earn the top spot of the group, however we will rest some of our key players since Esteghlal has a title decider against Foolad in the Iranian Professional League,” the 49-year-old stated.
