TEHRANTIMES - Persepolis football team booked a berth in the Iran’s Hazfi Cup final after defeating Damash of Gilan in penalty shootout.

On Saturday, the Iranian giant beat its host Damash 6-5 in penalty shootout at the Shahid Azodi Stadium.

Substitute Amin Motevasselzade scored for Damash with a header in the 71st minute.

Midfielder Mohammad Nouri, who came off the bench, brought Persepolis back from the brink on a goal with nine minutes remaining in regulation to tie the score at 1-1.

Then, after 30 tense minutes of overtime, visiting Persepolis defeated Damash 5-4 in the shootout.

“We are going to win the championship. Persepolis cannot win the title in the league. We are concentrating on Sepahan match and we want to claim the title in Hazfi Cup,” Persepolis coach Yahya Golmohammadi said in the post match news conference.

Persepolis will face Sepahan, who defeated Esteghlal in shootout last week, in final.

The exact time of the final match has yet to be announced.
