PTV - The Islamic Republic of Iran’s national under-23 football team has defeated Turkey 3-2 to become the champion of the 11th International Friendly Under-23 Football Tournament held in Qatar.


Iran beat Turkey at al-Arabi Stadium in Qatar’s capital, Doha, on Monday.

Turkey’s Cenk Tosun scored the opener for his team two minutes into the match, but Iran’s Payam Sadeqian leveled the game three minutes later. He scored the second goal in the 26th minute to clinch the first half 2-1.

In the second half, Mohsen Mosalman scored for the Iranian squad in the 74th minute, and in the 84th minute, Turkish Ridvan Simsek pulled one back.

Iran remained unbeaten in the four-nation tournament as the Iranian footballers blanked host Qatar 2-1 on Saturday, and edged past Morocco 1-0 on Thursday.

In the other match of the tourney, Qatar defeated Morocco 2-1 to finish in the third place.

Mosalman won the Best Player Award while Ali Reza Beiranvand picked up the Best Goalkeeper title.

Sadeghian won the Top Scorer Award.

Iran emerged as the Best Team in the tournament.
