TEHRANTIMES - Esteghlal produced its most ruthless attacking display in the Iran Professional League (IPL) current season to crush Fajr Sepasi 5-0 on Friday.
In the match held in Shiraz’s Hafezieh Stadium, Javad Nekounam gave the visiting team a lead from the penalty spot in the 40th minute.
Farzad Hatami and Siavash Akbarpour added goals in 49th and 65th minutes. Hatami was on target once again in the 71st minute and substitute Arash Borhani rubbed salt into hosts’ wounds in the dying moments of the match.
“We took advantage of our experience. Before Esteghlal scored the first goal, Fajr controlled the match but we took advantage of our chances,” Esteghlal coach Amir Ghalenoei said in the post-match news conference.
Elsewhere, Foolad continued its 18-match unbeaten run after they drew 2-2 with Malavan in an away game. Relegation-threatened Sanat Naft was held to a 2-2 draw by Aluminum, Mes defeated Zob Ahan 2-1 and Paykan lost its home game 2-1 to Saipa.
Esteghlal moved five points clear of Sepahan at the top of the table.
