Nesn - Iran’s Pro League may not be the most prestigious event on the world soccer calendar, but the competition produced one of soccer’s great moments of 2012.

Gholamreza Rezaei scored a goal eight seconds into a game on Sunday. The Persepolis forward gave his team the earliest of leads over Fajr Sepasi when he thundered home a shot from just inside the penalty area.

Rezaei’s strike has to be one of the quickest in soccer history. In fact, It might have even taken less time had Fajr Sepasi not kicked off the game. The home team promptly surrendered possession to Persepolis, and the visitors got to work. Persepolis won 2-0, but we don’t think Rezaei and co. scored the second goal with eight seconds left before stoppage time. That would make for harrowing symmetry.
